We are currently working with several Mexican parrot conservation centers to prepare the birds for release into the wild. The process can take several years and must be accompanied by environmental education and habitat restoration measures.

Releasing parrots back into the wild
Based on our many years of experience, we know that almost every parrot can overcome the consequences of being kept in a cage and become a wild animal again. In the best case, there is the possibility to regain freedom.

Natural behaviors have to be learned again.

We use environmental enrichment and pay attention to the needs of the parrots when setting up the aviary. Human contact is reduced to the bare minimum. Training sessions increase the probability of survival. Slow weaning from captivity (soft release) enables the birds to orientate themselves in freedom, to learn independence.

The training includes:

  • Social behavior
  • Flight training
  • Recognition of food plants
  • Anti-predator training

This guarantees the survival of the parrots after their release into the wild.
